Between 1953 and 1955, Alfa Romeo unveiled three concept cars at consecutive Turin Auto Shows, each designed by Franco Scaglione for Bertone. Strother MacMinn wrote that the name “Berlina Aerodinamica Tecnica” (B.A.T.), which translates to “technically aerodynamic coupe,” was a “modest title for these inspired and graceful gran turismo masterpieces.” The cars were aerodynamic studies designed to achieve the lowest possible drag coefficient; they were built on Alfa Romeo 1900 chassis and featured prominent rear fins. The B.A.T. 7 was the second car built, with the lowest drag coefficient at 0.19.
