Lotus Motorcycles was established in 2013 to design and build the iconic sports-car manufacturer's first motorcycle, the Lotus C-01. Meant to reflect a combination of lifestyle, design, and high-end technology, the C-01 is a joint “hyper bike” project between German racing team Kodewa, car designer Daniel Simon, and the Holzer Group. Integrating racing technology used in Formula 1, the C-01 uses materials such as carbon, titanium, and aerospace-quality steel to emphasize safety, ergonomics, and its stylish 21st-century design.
