Pivotal to the company’s success, Model 3 was the first Tesla intended for high-volume production at a mid-range price point. The design of Model 3 reinterpreted the aerodynamic silhouette of Model S on a shorter wheelbase. To maximize interior space, the instrument panel and front seats are positioned farther forward to give the rear passengers more legroom; similarly, the rear all-glass roof gives more physical headroom while also providing a feeling of openness.

This prototype was unveiled at Tesla’s launch event in 2016. Helping to create a sleek appearance, minimize air resistance, and improve vehicle aerodynamics, it featured a new grille-less design for its front nose, flush door handles, and aerodynamic wheels. Only minor changes were made between the prototype and the 2017 production version.
