2016 FORD GT 86
After developing the turbocharged EcoBoost engine in a Riley prototype in 2014 and 2015, Ford installed the powerful and efficient V-6 in a new generation GT sports car. Chip Ganassi Racing was entrusted with fielding teams in the United States and Europe, culminating in a four-car effort at the 2016 24 Hours of Le Mans. The win, by drivers Joey Hand, Dirk Müller, and Sébastien Bourdais, marked the 50th anniversary of Ford’s 1-2-3 victory at Le Mans with the GT40 in 1966.
Following Ford’s successful return to Le Mans in 2016 with Chip Ganassi Racing, the Ford GT racing program continued through the end of the 2019 season, earning a total of 18 race wins. Scott Dixon joined regular drivers Ryan Briscoe and Richard Westbrook to guide this car to the IMSA GT Le Mans class victory in the 2018 Rolex 24 At Daytona. This was the 200th race win across all categories for the Ganassi organization.
