BLADE RUNNER SPINNER

Driven in Blade Runner 2049 (2017)

Designer: George Hull

Builder: Paul Inglis and Logan Sexton

In the future of 2049, Spinners are not a common possession. Prohibitively expensive, they are mostly used by government officials, law enforcement, emergency vehicles, and the wealthy. As the man responsible for saving humanity and manufacturing replicants, Niander Wallace (Jared Leto) is the richest and most powerful person on earth. In addition to a nine passenger limousine, the Wallace Corporation has purchased Spinners for Wallace’s bodyguards, including one specially constructed for his most loyal soldier, Luv (Sylvia Hoeks).

Luv is a replicant who serves as an engineer for the Wallace Corporation, as well as Niander Wallace’s personal assistant and most lethal weapon. Her status and focus on perfection is reflected in her vehicle, which director Denis Villeneuve describes as “the Ferrari of Spinners.” Compared to K’s older, beat-up Spinner, Luv’s is sleek and carries more advanced technology. Since both Luv and K are replicants, the comparison of Spinners also reveals the difference in resources expended by the LAPD and the Wallace Corporation.
