Women in Motorsport: Bailey Campbell
We had the opportunity to speak with the very talented off-road racer, Bailey Campbell. She’s raced a variety of beasts from UTV’s to her custom monsters! She was raised in an off-road family and is currently trying to raise her little off-roader, Emry! We had the opportunity to ask this fearless woman a few questions about being a woman in the off-road world, and here’s what she had to say.
How did you get started in racing?
“I got into racing thanks to my dad, Shannon Campbell. My dad has been competing in rock crawling, desert, short course and circle track racing since before I was born and has truly made a name for himself in the automotive world. He would take my brother and I out to Florence, AZ where we have some of the best rock trails and let us drive wherever we wanted, in pretty much any competing vehicle he owned. That shortly led both my brother and I to our first competitions in 2012 and 2013. My dad sometimes claims he wished that he would have put us in soccer instead, but we know he likes to see the competitiveness we can put up during a race together!”
Who inspired you to start racing?
“My dad, Shannon Campbell was and still is my biggest inspiration when it comes to racing.”
What challenges have you faced as a woman trying to find your way in the sport?
Personally, I haven’t faced many challenges finding my way in the sport. My parents taught me that I am no different than anyone out there in the dirt and I have been given the opportunity to race with some of the best athletes in this off-road community. Each one of those athletes (pretty much all male) have not only given me their advice but have also treated me as if I was just any other driver out there on the track and I couldn’t be more thankful for that.
What are your goals behind the wheel and off the track?
My goals behind the wheel and off the track is to constantly keep learning something new every day. Whether it be learning something new in the marketing world, being taught something new in the shop, mechanically or fabrication wise and getting any seat time I can behind the wheel of any car.
What is your favorite vehicle you’ve raced?
My most favorite vehicle I’ve ever raced would probably be my first Custom Campbell Ent Solid Axle car. It was originally supposed to be my dad’s fishing rig that he could take on the trails to get to different spots, but he shortly turned it into my first race car and threw me into the same class that him and my brother Wayland raced in Ultra4, the 4400 class.
