Collaborate as a team, utilizing your detective skills to break free before time runs out! You’ll have a limit of 45 minutes to finish your mission. Enjoy light refreshments to energize your quest. Introducing the first-ever Petersen Junior Concours! Calling all young innovators under 18! Are you passionate about cars and enjoy creating your own designs? This is your chance to shine! Be one of the first participants in the Junior Concours’s debut design challenge, Future Visions, where you imagine the Car of the Future! We're seeking youth between the ages of 5-17 to create and enter a scale car model or design sketch of a future car into our contest. Participants will be divided into age groups: 5-9 years, 10-14 years, and 15-17 years, and submissions will be accepted for the following categories: Dream Machines / The Future, Today / Off-roading Off-planet. You have until March 23, 2024, to create your scale model or design sketches, which you will then display at the Petersen Automotive Museum for consideration by our panel of esteemed judges. Winners will receive prizes such as tickets to local attractions, gift cards, memberships, and scholarships!

To join, entrants must purchase a Participant Ticket. Ticket includes entry into the Concours, light bites, and complimentary same-day admission into the Museum for (1) Youth participant plus (1) Adult guardian. Petersen Members also enjoy complimentary parking! The Green Book: Guide to Freedom

Join us for a free screening of the Smithsonian Channel™ documentary: The Green Book: Guide to Freedom on Wednesday February 28, 2024 from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm in conjunction with the Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition Services (SITES), “The Negro Motorist: Green Book” on display at the Petersen until March 10, 2024.

In the 1930s, a black postal carrier from Harlem named Victor Green published a book that was part travel guide and part survival guide. It was called The Negro Motorist Green Book, and it helped African-Americans navigate safe passage across America well into the 1960s. Explore some of the segregated nation's safe havens and notorious "sundown towns" and witness stories of struggle and indignity as well as opportunity and triumph.

FERRARI CRUISE-IN

The Petersen Automotive Museum, in collaboration with the Ferrari Club of America, Southwest Region, is pleased to host our annual Ferrari Cruise-In!

Over the years, this event grew into becoming the biggest Ferrari gathering to take place on the West Coast. A sea of red Ferrari floods the museum for the pleasure of thousands of spectators, creating a surreal atmosphere that any car enthusiast can appreciate. Hope to see you there!

The Petersen Automotive Museum was born from a publishing empire. Robert Petersen, who started Hot Rod Magazine in 1948, fell in love with cars and began collecting them before opening the museum in 1994. For our 30th Anniversary, join us for a night celebrating this publishing past, by making your own “Zine”, a mini diy magazine. Collect inspiration and your materials from the galleries while you explore. Join us at several specialty stations to add extra flare to your zine. Your ticket includes a zine making kit, admission to the museum, and light refreshments*.

Learn the Basics of Automotive Care

The Teen Auto Workshop, presented by the Petersen Automotive Museum, is a program for high school students to learn the basics of automotive mechanics while working on a car in the Museum's collection. Students will learn about the various parts of a car while performing repairs and upgrades on a Museum vehicle.

This Cruise-In will be centered around the celebration of the 60th anniversary of both Shelby American and the Mustang. Step into a world of whimsical wonders at the Petersen's Gingerbread Garage Extravaganza, running from December 18th to December 22nd in the Rob and Melani Walton Discovery Center!

Unleash your imagination and build the gingerbread garage of your dreams, with all the supplies provided including candy, icing, and graham crackers. Our holiday helpers will be on hand to guide you through the sugary construction process, ensuring a jolly good time for all ages.

The Gingerbread Garages will be available from 11:00am to 2:00 pm in the Discovery Center while supplies last. There is no need to RSVP as the event will be taking place throughout the week. Museum admission is required to enter the Discovery Center.

Porsche 356 Cruise-In + Rally!

For the 3rd consecutive year, and as part of our continued celebration of Porsche's 75th anniversary, we are welcoming the 356 Club of Southern California with our holiday Porsche 356 Cruise-In. The 356 Club of Southern California is the largest, independent Porsche 356 Club in the world.

Even if you don’t own a Porsche 356, but still own a Porsche, please join us for this very special and unique cars & coffee!

After the Cruise-In, we are welcoming the Porsche 356 and Porsche 911 air-cooled community to join us on our rally to Santa Paula to explore an incredible car collection and enjoy lunch at the facility. December Little Sparks Youth Workshops | Gingerbread Garages

December 16th from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM

The Little Sparks workshop series is a fun, interactive way for your Little Sparks (ages 3-6) to explore the world of cars. Join us on the third Saturday of each month from 9 am to 10 am to play games, create artwork, and enjoy the museum collection. The workshop is free with the purchase of museum admission.

This month’s theme is Gingerbread Garages on Saturday, December 16 from 9 am to 10 am. You’ve heard of gingerbread houses, but here at the Petersen, our cars deserve a house too. Come build your very own gingerbread garage to protect your favorite toy car.

Women and Route 66 Youth Workshop

Saturday, December 2nd | 1:00 PM - 3:00 PM

The documentary film series Route 66: The Untold Story of Women on the Mother Road explores how women overcame segregation and gender discrimination to build fulfilling lives for themselves and generations to come on America's most beloved road. This special event geared towards students and Girl Scouts grades 7-10 focuses on how women travelers navigated gender discrimination and overcame challenges on the Mother Road. Clips from the film series will be shown and several special guests will speak. Activities to engage students with this important history using primary sources are also planned. This presentation is made possible with support from the Petersen Automotive Museum and the National Trust for Historic Preservation.

Join us in celebrating 70 Years of one of the most important model companies in the game, Matchbox! The Matchbox Cruise-In will feature a real world packaging backdrop to park your vehicle in front of to make your car look like it’s on the shelf! We will also be hosting a panel featuring Matchbox Designers, Bryan Benedict and Julian Payne. Also a special feature by artist Mr. Brainwash to celebrate the brand.

Escape the Petersen

Friday October 27, 2023 | 7:00 PM - 10:00 PM

You and your friends find yourselves locked in the Petersen Automotive Museum after hours. Work as a team using your sleuthing skills to escape the museum before it's too late! You'll have sixty minutes to complete your mission.  Winners will be entered into a raffle for the Petersen Grand Prize.  

Escape Room Ticket Includes: 

• Rooftop Pre-reception with light refreshments along with wine, beer, and soft drinks

• A sweet ending with treats and coffee service afterward to celebrate your escape 

This event is strictly 18+. Doors open at 6:30 p.m., with the escape rooms starting at 7:00 p.m.  Rooms will open on a rolling basis. We begin our route at the Petersen Museum, and will drive to the Hollywood sign and back! Gurr has always been a man on the move as he’s often quipped, “If it moves on wheels at Disneyland, I probably designed it.” Who better to lead a discussion about our new Strother Macminn exhibit than a friend and mentee?

Join us for a captivating talk about mid-century design with the legendary Bob Gurr and discover the secrets behind these awe-inspiring designs. Following the discussion will be an interactive Q&A that offers a peek into his visionary mind.  Gurr will then lead a Gallery Tour of the MacMinn exhibit on the Third Floor which highlights Strother MacMinn's enduring legacy and influence that would take the automotive world into the next century.

September Little Sparks Youth Workshops | Ready, Set, Race

September 16th from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM

Explore the world of video games by building components of your own game. 

The Little Sparks workshop series is a fun, interactive way for your Little Sparks (ages 3-6) to explore the world of cars. Join us on the third Saturday of each month from 9 am to 10 am to play games, create artwork, and enjoy the museum collection. The workshop is free with the purchase of museum admission. 

 Workshops run Saturday mornings from 9:00 am to 10:00 am. General admission tickets can be purchased HERE.

It's time for the largest wagon show in the universe! WagonFest is coming to Southern California. New wagons, old wagons, futuristic wagons. American, European, Japanese, Swedish and everything else! If it has a long roof, bring it. Bonus points for weird wagons and cargo boxes!

WagonFest tickets are $35 per car. This includes a spot in the show as well a general admission ticket to the Petersen Museum.

VIP tickets are $65 per car and include a spot in the show, WagonFest t-shirt and premium poster as well as general admission to the Petersen Museum.

Petersen Members will receive $15 off all ticket levels, Early Access to the Museum starting at 9am, and FREE parking! Please Contact membership@petersen.org
