ENGINE: 5.7-liter Chevrolet LT1 V-8 (prototype M6GT)
HORSEPOWER: 370 (prototype M6GT)
NUMBER BUILT: 3 (est.)

Hoping to expand upon the success that the M6 had enjoyed in Can-Am and Formula racing, McLaren set out to build a road-going version of the model that would allow it to satisfy homologation rules for competition in endurance races like the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Considered McLaren’s first road car, the M6GT was based on an M6A chassis and powered by a Chevrolet engine tuned by Bartz. This M6GT, the only example to be raced in-period, was built in 1968 and was one of the first McLaren road cars to feature the papaya hue that the company had recently introduced on its Can-Am cars.
