Women in Motorsport: Nerea Marti
We had the opportunity to speak with W Series driver, Nerea Marti. She has been racing since she was 9 years old, and does not plan on stopping anytime soon! Racing is a family tradition for her, and plans on forging her own legendary legacy. She is driving the Tatuus Formula 3 car in the upcoming 2021 season. Here are her answers to our questions about being a woman in the motorsport world!
How did you get started in racing?
I started when I was nine years old driving go karts in Karting Horta Nord, my father and uncle karting. At the beginning, they didn`t let me compete, because they didn´t know the world Motorsport very well, but then in twenty fifteen I did my first race with my father as my mechanic and finally two years later Praga España Motorsport sign me as an official Praga racing driver. Nowadays i´m going to race in the W-SERIES which is a great opportunity for me.
Who inspired you to start racing?
“After my father started in the motorsport business with his go Karting Horta Nord, I started to get very interested into racing and it became my dream.”
What challenges have you faced as a woman trying to find your way in the sport?
“Motorsport it´s a very difficult world for any driver and I think I faced the same challenges as any other male or female driver. Obviously Motorsport has a larger amount of guys than girls and people still is sceptic and that makes the path of a girl more difficult but thanks to the W-SERIES that is changing.”
What are your goals behind the wheel and off the track?
“My goals are to become a professional racing driver behind the wheel and off the track to influence other people to follow their dreams and fight for them.”
What is your favorite vehicle you’ve raced?
“My favorite car that I´ve raced with is the formula 4 in the Spanish f4 championship.”
